Going Behind the Steel Curtain

After years of dominating the AFC North, the Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be in the middle of a downfall. Pro Bowl running back, Le'Veon Bell, couldn’t reach a deal with the team and is entering free agency. Their best receiver, Antonio Brown, was recently traded to the Raiders for a couple of draft picks, and their quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, has called out his teammates on numerous occasions. It appears Mike Tomlin is slowly losing control of the team.

So what is the solution?

I believe they should trade Roethlisberger and start anew. Roethlisberger is not getting any younger and even with him under centre, the team around him isn’t good enough to seriously contend in the AFC. There are plenty of teams on the brink of making a run that could use a quarterback like him. The draft picks they would get in return could help them find a young quarterback to pair alongside Juju Smith-Schuster and give the offence some fresh blood.

Now, there is still time for the Steelers to make a big splash in free agency to replace Brown and Bell, filling a short-term void, but I believe that bringing some fresh faces in will make sure that we will see many more years of Pittsburgh Steelers dominance.
